The "NEW" Sponsor-a-Family Program
Welcome to the new Good Shepherd Sponsor-a-Family Program. We invite you to become part of our extended family by helping to brighten the life of a family in need in our community. We serve families who face unexpected crises that result in homelessness. Please help us to shelter these families from the storm and support them in making a new beginning.
Our Christmas Sponsor-a-Family Program has been so successful and rewarding that we would like to extend it year round. We recognize the growing need for support for families in our community and therefore Good Shepherd is reaching out to offer them our help.
Your very generous donation will go directly to helping families under our Good Shepherd umbrella which provides emergency accommodation and support to many families at a time. We welcome help from individuals, families, businesses, faith-based organizations or groups. There are so many ways for you to help: Why not suggest to those you invite to special events such as weddings, showers and birthdays that they give a donation to Good Shepherd Sponsor-a-Family Program in lieu of gifts?
Becoming a sponsor to one of our families is a wonderful way to enrich both your life and the lives of others. Your generous gift will help a family to succeed!
Ways to Help
Welcome Gift Baskets: In most cases families have little if anything with them when they arrive at the Family Centre. By providing necessary toiletries such as shampoo, deodorant, shaving items, feminine products, etc., you will help alleviate their stress and help them feel welcomed and comfortable.
Housewarming Basket: After their initial stay at the Family Centre, our families make their way into our community. We help set them up in their new home by providing a few essentials such as a set of dishes, kitchen items, glasses, towels and sheets.
Back to School Donations: Items such as backpacks and school supplies for the children of our families are also greatly needed and appreciated.
Financial Donations: There is always a need to provide funds to purchase items such as bus tickets for the families to attend doctor’s visits, interviews, and other necessary appointments.
Other Donations: We also like to offer families donated items for every day use or during their stay at the Family Centre. These can include: grocery cards, laundry detergent (must be high-efficiency "HE"), new socks, new underwear, T-shirts, and track pants, board games, books, imagination toys (Lego, building blocks) for the children’s play room.
