The Family Centre
The Family Centre offers temporary emergency accommodation and residential support to as many as 20 families who have become homeless. Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the Family Centre endeavours to help families identify their unique barriers to achieving safe, sustainable housing. Staff assists residents as they strive to develop effective short- and long-term strategies for re-establishing housing and re-integrating into the community.
Facilities: The Family Centre offers families private, accessible accommodation in furnished, self- contained apartments (one, two, or three bedrooms). Each unit includes separate washroom, kitchen and living/dining areas. The Centre also offers:
- Shared meeting and recreational spaces
- Laundry facilities
- Emergency food, clothing and personal items
- Telephone access
Services offered:
- Access to residential support workers, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
- Individual case management to help residents address issues that may be adversely affecting their housing status and overall quality of life
- Assistance searching for permanent housing
- Connections to post-shelter networks
- Referrals to medical, legal and other community services
- On-site access to support services such as Ontario Works, Public Health etc.
- Specialized services for children and youth such as school registration, homework club, recreational activities
- Information and education programs dealing with employment, budgeting, life skills development, landlord/tenant issues, parenting etc.
- Assistance with transportation
- Cultural interpretation services will also be provided both in-house and in the community
