er dedicated to assisting women and children who are fleeing abuse.

Services Offered:

  • Private family bedrooms
  • 24-hour crisis line: 905-523-6277
  • Safe, short-term accommodation for women and their children
  • Emergency transportation to the shelter if needed
  • Referrals and advocacy for legal, medical, financial, employment, housing and other community services
  • Interpreters for non-English-speaking residents
  • Assistance for women and children seeking to re-establish themselves in the community
  • Wheelchair accessibility with attendant care if necessary

Programs Offered:

  • Counseling for women who have been or are being abused (residents & non-residents)
  • Support groups for abused women (residents & non-residents) – child care available
  • Children’s programs for all ages, both recreational and therapeutic
  • Public education and community outreach

 

Mary's PlaceMary's Place

Mary’s Place is a 9-bed emergency shelter for women 18 years of age or older in need of safety, support and/or emergency shelter.

The staff of Mary’s Place support women in coping with such diverse issues as homelessness, poverty, mental illness and violence.

Mary’s Place also offers a daily drop-in program for residents as well as women living in the community. The drop-in incorporates a wide range of recreational and educational activities designed to promote a sense of community and enhanced self-esteem.

Somerville House

Somerville House offers a 10-bed, long-term supportive living environment for women, 18 years of age and older, who have experienced difficulty in sustaining safe, accessible housing.

The Somerville program provides an opportunity for women with issues related to mental health to live as part of a community. It offers a comprehensive range of client-directed case management services, life skills instruction, social and recreational activities and an aftercare program.

The ultimate goal of the Somerville program is to prepare women, over a period of time, to re-enter the community with the skills and supports necessary to achieve a lifestyle of greater autonomy, dignity and independence.
