Chicago

What a great evening we all had on January 30th as the legendary band Chicago strutted their stuff at Carmen’s in support of Good Shepherd.

Good Shepherd is so very grateful for your participation in this rockin’ event! I am pleased to tell you that with your support, this amazing evening raised approximately $65,000 for the new Good Shepherd Square being built in downtown Hamilton.

Good Shepherd Square

Over the past 10 years, the number of people living in poverty in Hamilton has grown at an alarming rate and the demand for social services has skyrocketed. Today, one in fi ve Hamilton residents lives below the poverty
line and thousands visit food banks every month.

The new Good Shepherd Square is the cornerstone of our future as it reflects a health and wellness model that employs preventive measures to help people avoid the debilitating impact of poverty and assist them in establishing and maintaining independent, productive lives. Here, all guests can access the tools they need to reach their individual goals, break the cycle of poverty and enjoy healthier lives.

The final phase of Good Shepherd Square is nearing completion. One building will contain 84 units of affordable rental housing for singles and small families, a social service resource centre, community meeting rooms open for public use, and administrative space for the Good Shepherd offices.

The final building will provide a Seniors' Wellness Centre with programming, including a health facility, medical clinic and a seniors' drop-in centre, in addition to 72 affordable rental housing units. Good Shepherd Square could not have been possible without the support of various levels of government. The cost of construction is $55 Million, of which the three levels of government are paying $45 Million. That leaves
$10 Million to be raised by Good Shepherd and the community of Hamilton.
