Emmanuel House

Emmanuel House has been providing care and support to residents of Hamilton since 1998. Our 10-bed residential hospice is open to individuals who are facing a life limiting illness and require comfort and support for themselves and their families.

It is said that “a hospice is not a place of care, rather a philosophy of care.” That philosophy is brought to life inside Emmanuel House. Our goal is to enable our residents to continue to experience quality of life, respect, dignity and the ability to live with dignity, while remaining in their community, close to home and those they care about most.

“My sister and I still talk about the miracle and blessing of having found Emmanuel House and having our mother there.”

Residents and their families remain actively involved in all decisions that affect them and their quality of life. We support and encourage residents and families to continue to experience life, laughter and love. Our inter-professional Palliative Care Team provides coordinated care from nurses, physicians, pharmacists, social workers and physiotherapists to pastoral care. Trained personnel, support workers and volunteers assist residents with the goal of maximizing their remaining abilities and strength.

“Everyone seems to put their heart and soul into each day when they walk through the front door.”

Emmanuel House provides each resident with a tastefully decorated private bed/sitting room and adjacent two-piece bathroom. Each unit is climate controlled and comfortably furnished with a quilt-covered therapeutic bed, storage for personal items, cable television and a phone. Our Care Point call system includes a call button on either side of the bed and mobile call buttons worn by the resident that affords them freedom of movement within the house and in the gardens. An Arjo therapeutic bathing tub, wheelchair accessible showers and various resident transfer/lift devices ensure safe and relaxed care assistance to residents. Emmanuel House sits amid carefully tended gardens and manicured lawns that residents/families are at liberty enjoy.

“You treated us like family and it made all the difference in the world.”

Residents and families are welcome to find respite in our peaceful chapel, which offers a place to reflect and rest. Emmanuel House respects the rights of all persons to have their individual beliefs and religious affiliations and will endeavor to help them keep those traditions and customs that have brought joy and meaning to their lives.
