Good Shepherd began as a simple hostel for men forty-five years ago, when the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd first came to Hamilton in 1961.
Throughout the years, in carrying out its mission to serve our brothers and sisters in need, Good Shepherd has identified new and emerging needs in this community and responded with new services.
Today, Good Shepherd is this community’s leading provider of human services to vulnerable men, women and children. Following our mission of "Charity Unlimited….Never Stop Loving," it serves troubled youth, abused women and children, the dying, the mentally and physically challenged, the hungry and the homeless.
Poverty is at the root of most social problems afflicting our community today. As Good Shepherd responds to the myriad problems poverty spawns, it strives to provide a continuum of care that allows people to move from crisis to healthy reintegration into the community.
On an average day, the Good Shepherd serves more than one thousand people in need. Programs and services are designed not to simply treat the immediate crises at hand, but also to address the root causes of these serious community problems.
Despite the Good Shepherd growth, community needs continue to outpace our ability to meet them. Many programs and services are funded almost entirely from donations from the community.
We rely on the generosity and community spirit of thousands of local individuals and organizations. Without these funds, the Good Shepherd would cease to function.
