volunteering opportunities

You can help Good Shepherd by volunteering at a range of different programs and services. There is something for every skill set and commitment level. Please see the list of current opportunities below. 


Women’s Services: is looking for volunteers to child mind babies and children of all ages. Monday-Sunday mornings, afternoons and evenings and during summer camps. Volunteers are also needed for food prep and to assist with wellness programming for women (yoga/pilates, Zumba, massage/reki, fitness, arts and crafts, etc.)

Notre Dame House: needs volunteers who interested in interacting with youth to serve lunch and dinner at Notre Dame House (lunch shifts 11am – 1pm and dinner shifts 3:30pm – 5:30pm, Monday- Sunday). As well, Administrative/Computer Assistants are needed at both Notre Dame House and Brennan House. Skills needed include Excel, Word and experience with databases (Monday-Friday).

Brennan House: is looking for volunteers interested in sharing their passions and interests with youth who have the following skills: hairdressers, cooking/baking, music, nail art, yoga/pilates, mediation, arts and crafts, etc. Throughout the school year, homework helpers are also needed. Monday – Friday 3:30pm – 5:30pm.

Jeanne Scott Parent & Child Resource Centre: needs volunteers to child mind children ages two months to four years, as well as help with dishes, laundry, cleaning and organizing. Mondays - Thursdays 9:30am - 2:00pm and Fridays 9:30am-11:30am.

Family Centre: is looking for volunteers who like to cook/bake to prepare meals and baked goods at the Family Centre. Shift time is flexible. As well, reception help is needed to answer phones and greet and direct visitors, Monday – Sunday from 4:00pm – 7:00pm. Homework helpers are needed for children/youth September – June, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00pm-7:00pm.

SAM Program: needs people who enjoy volunteering with seniors to provide program and activity help as well as preparing snacks and lunch. (Monday - Friday).

SAM Aphasia Program: is seeking volunteers who are interested in working with adults who have Aphasia, a language disorder due mainly to stroke, and who are experiencing difficulties with social conversations. Volunteers will be trained to help clients participate in social conversations. Mondays and Thursdays from 9:30am – 12:30pm in Hamilton and Tuesdays in Flamborough. Ideal for volunteers with an interest in entering the Speech-Language Pathology field; retired teachers or health care professionals. Volunteers need to be able to volunteer at least once per week, for one year at minimum (8 months school year for students).

Assisted Living: needs volunteers to visit and talk with seniors one on one or in a small group running activities and games. As well, a volunteer is needed for administrative duties.

Emmanuel House: needs volunteers who are interested in visiting with residents, preparing meals for lunch and dinner and front office/reception. As well, a volunteer to shop for groceries weekly for the summer months is required. (Morning, afternoon and evening, weekday and weekends).

Development Office: needs occasional volunteers to help with reception desk duties. Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm.

Men’s Centre: needs volunteers to provide reception coverage on weekends as well as laundry support to the men who reside at the Centre (6:00pm.- 9:00pm). Volunteers are needed to assist staff with food preparation (seven days a week, 9:30am-noon) and on weekends afternoons (1:00pm - 4:00pm). Volunteers are also needed to help with meal prep/serving in the hot meal program (Monday–Friday,1:00pm -4:45pm).

Venture Centre: needs volunteers to assist in the donation receiving area, greeting the general public, receiving donations, as well as sorting donations in the warehouse (Mondays - 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.).

Marketplace: Volunteers are needed in the Marketplace to assist with re-stocking shelves/fridges/ freezers, clothing station, houseware station, helping guests with their food shop and bagging groceries at check out (Monday-Friday, 8:00am-12:30pm or 12:30pm - 4:00pm).

Special Skills: We are looking for volunteers who are interested in sharing their passions. Volunteers who are skilled in the following are encouraged to volunteer: hairdressers, massage/reki, music, nail artist, yoga/pilates, mediation, gardening, flower arranging, cooking/baking, arts and crafts, etc.

Special Event Volunteers (occasional): volunteers are needed throughout the year to help occasionally with events such as the Christmas Hamper program, the Christmas Wonderland Dinner, community events, food drives, and special dinners. (Day, evening and weekend)
